The
Angélus is
undoubtedly one of the best wines of Bordeaux. Since
more then ten years, le château has succeeded in producing exemplary wines; even
in the average years. The 2001 is once again splendid,
with its black colour, its phenomenal concentration and
a very rich odour. The taste is absolutely magnificent,
with a lot of opulent and race.
The
property is situated at less then one kilometre of the
famous bell tower the Saint Emillion, on the well known
‘pied de côte’ exposed to the very South. Le
Château Angélus belongs since four generations
to the Boüard de Laforest family. The origin of the
name comes from a parcel of land where in the old days
one could hear ringing The Angélus simultaneously with
the three churches of that area: the chapel of
Mazerat, the church of Saint Martin de Mazerat
and the one of Saint Emillion. This parcel of three
hectares has been acquired by Maurice de Boüard de
Laforest in the beginning of the century. His family
was already owner of a neighbour vineyard: le Château
Mazerat. The property hasn’t stopped to enlarge until
the seventies by the acquisition of adjoining parcels.
Today, the property has acceded the desirable rank of
the first wine sort classified B, and is well
known in the entire world as one of the grandest wines
of Saint-Emillion. |
