Ausone
is one of the oldest vineyards of Saint-Emilionais.
Its name is coming from the poet and pro-consul
Ausone whose mansion was located at the place of the
actual castle.
Today,
the property belongs to the family of Alain VAUTHIER.
The
vineyard of Châteaux Ausone is sheltered from northern
wind by a belt of rocks, it also makes it drained
prefectly because of its slope. The average age of the
grapevines is more than 50 years old. These
factors make of this great vintage such an exceptional
wine that is it sometimes needed to wait 20 years or
more to discover and enjoy all its qualities.
Some
hundred-year-old vintages show themselves even
unconvincing nowadays.
